Objective: Using the book Mindset: The Psychology of Success, by Carol Dweck (2006), Residents will integrate what they have learned about growth and fixed mindsets with knowledge of themselves; this integration will be demonstrated in a plan for avoiding pitfalls, building stamina, and learning problem solving skills during the residency year. She interviewed in Mayberry and did not get the job. When she learned she had failed to get the job in Mayberry, she immediately contacted Mayberry staff and asked for feedback so that she could learn from the experience how to interview more successfully. She used this feedback to improve her interviewing skills and landed a job in Pioneer Valley. Most of us, when we get rejected, do not have the courage to ask for details about why we failed. • What is your current mindset? • What is your plan for becoming more like Stephanie? o What will you do as a student in your courses? o What will you do as a resident learning to teach? • What is your plan as a teacher for helping your students to become more like Stephanie?
