As you can see from our class notes - class discussions - comments made in the mainstream media - the speech from French prime minister Macron -- it is so easy to take a definition and manipulate it to meet your means. If we put nationalism on a scale -- most people talk about the extreme end -- the 10/10 scale -- whereas in real life - nationalism at the 0-5 level is perfectly okay, tolerable, and embraceable. We have nationalism by President Trump as embraced by exiting the Paris Climate Accord, limiting immigration, becoming isolationist in state policies, threatening to withdraw from the UN and NATO as extreme nationalism. We have seen nationalism embraced by PM Trudeau as promoting Canada to #1 on the world stage with global trade, open border immigration, a seat on the UN Security Council, and following the Paris Climate Accord to the letter..... It is obvious that Canada and the US have different definitions of nationalism - so where does Quebec fit into this... Do you think the "values test" that Quebec initiated this year built up or tore down nationalism? Do you think Canada should adopt a Canadian values test?
